Current Schedule and Calendar

Midsummer Farm is a CSA farm, a plant and seedling nursery, and a teaching and demonstration farm. The main gardening practices or styles are unique to this farm, but are applicable from a raised 8x10' bed in a suburban backyard, to a community garden endeavor, to a rooftop garden in a city, to a micro-farm, to any multi-acred production farm... They are a combination of great food production techniques that work together to restore fertility, revitalize the land, and that create abundance.

Refund Policies:

If you register for a workshop, but cannot make it to the class... we understand - things happen.

But please do give us the courtesy of a call or email letting us know that cannot make it! Especially during the growing season every minute counts for us - and we often run workshops with very few participants. So we may find ourselves first getting all prepped and ready for you and then sitting around waiting for you to show up. This is a very hurtful waste of farming time. So do let us know if you aren't going to show up!

We will usually be able to let you use the workshop fee as a credit toward another workshop or for when the original workshop you signed up for runs again. We CANNOT offer a credit if you don't give us at least a day's notice that you won't be able to attend. OUR POLICY IS NO REFUNDS.

We usually send out an email reminder a day or so before the workshop. If there is bad weather or a cancellation for some other reason, we will let you know through email.

Seasonal Weed-Walk
Purslane, Plantain, St. John's Wort...
We'll forage and find a wide diversity of wonderful edible and medicinal "weeds" that have sprung up and volunteered around our garden-farm. (We did encourage them a bit!) These same "weeds" are probably growing in your yard and garden too! And now you'll be able to safely recognize and identify them.

May 7th -11 am to 1 pm

You'll receive more info on what to expect from the course, and we'll be able to answer all your questions!

If you'd like to come by the farm and get a better idea of what it would mean to take a Permaculture Design Course - Please simply RSVP by filling out the form on our Session Page.

Starting May 26th

A 3-day workshop focusing on using trees as medicines. Trees are majestive and powerful plants - they could be seen as the old souls of the plant world. Brimming with amazing energy, trees offer healing that is intrinsically and beautifully distinct from other herbs.

We will be discussing the classic tree-herbs as well as other locally growing trees that can be used medicinally. We will be exploring how to use them in traditional herbalism as well as from an energetic perspective. We'll also be exploring trees from the perspective of their ancient role and relationship with human beings.

Workshop is spread across the 3 main time periods of seasonal tree growth.

Timing is 1 to 3 pm
Takes place on Thursdays - May 26th, June 23rd,  and July 21st 2022

Free Info Sessions!

We will be running a select group of workshops and courses that we feel are important and worth while. We are limiting the number of students though and the course structure is changing to be mostly outside. So prepare for weather! Safety is our number one concern - proper social distancing will be required as well as other safety precautions as recommended at the time. Workshops are fun social experiences and we love the groups who come together when we do these classes. During these strange times, we are more grateful than ever for safe and positive social experiences...

Covid has changed much of our day to day lives - but it is also an opportunity to refocus and redirect our energies and our lives. We cannot even express how good we felt that we were growing our own clean and densely nutritious food right at our home. And we felt such gratefulness with how much our farm and the nature-inspired landscape helped to protect and energize us. We regretted that we were not able to share and teach through this period when people really needed it!

The courses we teach are designed to give you the info and experience to successfully create sanctuary, health, and nutrition for your selves, for others, and for the environment at large. Hope you will find the opportunity to join us.

More on our farm

These workshops are taught by Barbara Taylor-Laino, who has been growing food organically since the 1970's. She has extensively studied and researched in Biodynamic, Bio-intensive gardening, Permaculture-styled food production systems, etc., but she has also actively experimented and implemented this information in real-world environments. She has been gardening for and consulting on various levels and sizes of food production enterprises for over 15 years, growing for extensive plant & seedling sales for 14 years, and running her own organically grown CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Farm since 2006. These courses and workshops take place at her farm, Midsummer Farm, in beautiful Warwick, NY, about 1 hour from New York City.
