Our Bee-Loud Glade: The Honey Bees at Midsummer Farm

The Honey Flow is On! We have started extracting some honey from our hive. We bought the bees last year from Gunther Hauk (author of Toward Saving the Honey Bee and pioneer in Biodynamic Beekeeping) of the Pfeiffer Center and so far they are doing well and pollinating our gardens impeccably.

We use no chemicals or pesticides in our hive and work hard to keep the bees’ immune systems strong and healthy. We have been very lucky as bees in North America are plagued with diseases and parasites and the honey bee population is in desperate jeopardy.

Honey bees are important pollinators - we see a huge difference in our crops since we started beekeeping. They also create products that humans can get no where else and that cannot be made synthetically — Honey, Bee’s Wax, Propolis, Bee Pollen, and others. In other words, sweetness and light! Bee products are also known to have tremendous health benefits.

All of our products made from our hive are all natural and pure and simple as possible.

The bee’s pollinating work ensures the food supply. We are dependent on them for all growing things- by supporting local beekeepers, your own garden, as well as the gardens of the world, grow better.

We have chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax, thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light
